Sleeves Up Builders Terms and Conditions

Last updated

Effective date: October 18, 2026

Key points (summary only)

This summary is here to help you read the Terms. It is not a substitute for them; the full Terms below control.

  • Sleeves Up Builders is a membership directory. We list independent veteran-owned residential home-repair businesses ("Home Repair Pros") and residential-construction trade schools ("Schools"). We are not a contractor, employer, staffing agency, broker or school, and we are not a party to any agreement you make with a listed business or school.
  • Homeowners and visitors use the directory for free and contact listed businesses and schools directly.
  • A badge means our staff reviewed a document the member submitted and approved it on the date shown. A badge is not a guarantee, endorsement, warranty or background check. Always confirm licenses, insurance and permits yourself.
  • Members must tell the truth about who they are, including veteran ownership. False veteran claims lead to removal and may be reported to the authorities.
  • Membership is request-only today: no payment is taken and no card details are collected. Nothing will be charged until we publish billing, renewal, cancellation and refund terms and you expressly agree to them.
  • Membership never affects search ranking, badges or ratings.
  • IMPORTANT: Section 29 requires most disputes to be resolved by binding individual arbitration instead of in court, and waives class actions and jury trials. You may opt out of arbitration by e-mail within 30 days. Small-claims cases are allowed.

1. Who we are and agreement to these Terms

1.1 These Terms and Conditions (the "Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Sleeves Up Builders, 8401 Mayland Drive, Suite 6077, Richmond, VA 23294, USA, also styled Sleeves Up. Builders ("Sleeves Up", "we", "us" or "our"). They govern your use of the website at sleevesup.builders, its member and administrator areas, and the related e-mails and services we provide (together, the "Service").

1.2 By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you create an account, apply for a listing, request a membership, or check a box or click a button indicating that you accept these Terms, you also agree that you have read them and that they bind you (and, if you act for a business or school, that organization). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1.3 If you accept these Terms on behalf of a business, school or other organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind it. In that case "you" means both you and that organization, and the organization is responsible for the acts of everyone who uses the Service under its account.

1.4 These policies form part of these Terms and are incorporated by reference:

  • Privacy Policy: sleevesup.builders/privacy
  • Acceptable Use & Listing Guidelines: sleevesup.builders/acceptable-use
  • Cookie & Local Storage Notice: sleevesup.builders/cookies
  • Membership & Payments (refunds and cancellation): sleevesup.builders/refunds

Our Trust & Verification page (sleevesup.builders/trust) and How Ranking Works page (sleevesup.builders/how-ranking-works) describe how badges and search results work. They are explanations of the Service and are referred to in these Terms, but they do not add promises beyond those in these Terms.

1.5 If these Terms conflict with one of the incorporated policies, these Terms control, except that the Privacy Policy controls on how we handle personal information. A separate written agreement signed by an authorized representative of Sleeves Up controls over these Terms where it says so expressly.

2. Definitions

In these Terms:

  • "Visitor" means anyone who browses the Service without an account.
  • "Homeowner" means a Visitor who uses the directory to find a business or school for personal, family or household purposes.
  • "Member" means a business or school that has applied for, or holds, a listing on the Service. A "Member Business" or "Home Repair Pro" is an independent residential home-repair business listed in the Home Repair Network (sleevesup.builders/network). A "Member School" is a residential-construction or trade school listed in the school directory (sleevesup.builders/schools).
  • "Authorized User" means a person who uses the Service on a Member's behalf, such as an owner, officer, employee or agent.
  • "Administrator" means a Sleeves Up staff member or contractor with access to the administrator console.
  • "Listing" means a Member's public profile in a directory.
  • "Member Content" means everything a Member or Authorized User submits to the Service, including listing text, photos, logos, program details, contact details, application answers and verification documents.
  • "Badge" means a label on a Listing showing that a specific credential was reviewed and approved by Sleeves Up staff, as described in Section 7.
  • "Informational Content" means the Licensing Navigator, apprenticeship, GI Bill, VR&E and certification guides, articles, videos, blog or VLOG posts and similar material on the Service.

3. What Sleeves Up is, and what it is not

3.1 The Service is a for-profit membership directory. It lets Homeowners find independent veteran-owned residential home-repair businesses, lets veterans and others find trade schools, and lets Members present themselves.

3.2 Sleeves Up is not, and does not act as:

  • a contractor, general contractor, subcontractor, home-improvement contractor or home-improvement salesperson;
  • an employer, staffing agency, placement agency or labor broker;
  • a lead broker or referral service that sells Homeowner contact details;
  • a school, educational institution, training provider or recruiter for any school;
  • a veterans' benefits representative, claims agent or VA-accredited agent or attorney;
  • a real-estate, mortgage or settlement-service provider; or
  • an insurer, guarantor or escrow agent.

3.3 We do not employ, contract, supervise, train, place, assign, schedule, dispatch or hire anyone listed on the Service. Members are independent of us and control their own work, prices, schedules, staff, enrollment and operations.

3.4 We are not a party to any agreement between a Homeowner and a Member Business, or between a student or prospective student and a Member School. We do not quote, negotiate, sign, perform, inspect or guarantee any work, program or enrollment.

3.5 We earn money only from membership fees paid by Members (once billing begins; see Section 12). We do not charge Homeowners, do not charge per lead, click or call, and do not receive any commission, referral fee or other compensation tied to any job, hire, enrollment or transaction that results from a Listing.

3.6 The Service does not currently offer online project requests, quotes, payments between users or messaging between users. If we add any of these features, we will publish the rules that apply to them before they become available. Customer reviews are available as described in Sections 6.6 to 6.10 and 9.7.

4. Eligibility and accounts

4.1 You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to create an account. The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

4.2 You do not need an account to browse the directories. You need an account to apply for a Listing, manage a Listing or request a membership.

4.3 You must give accurate, current and complete information when you create an account and keep it up to date. You may not create an account for someone else without authority, impersonate anyone, or create an account to get around a suspension.

4.4 You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details confidential and for all activity under your account. Do not share passwords. Tell us at once at support@sleevesup.builders if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

4.5 We may require e-mail confirmation, two-step verification (for example an authenticator app) or other security measures for some accounts or actions. Administrator accounts must use two-step verification.

4.6 We may refuse, suspend or close an account as described in Section 22.

5. Electronic agreement, records and communications

5.1 You agree that these Terms, any later version of them, and any notice, disclosure or other record we provide to you may be provided electronically, and that your electronic acceptance (for example by checking a box or clicking a button) is your signature and has the same effect as a handwritten signature, under the federal Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act and applicable state law.

5.2 When you accept these Terms during sign-up or a membership request, we record which version you accepted, when, and from which account. You may view the current version at any time at sleevesup.builders/terms and may save or print it. You can ask for a copy of the version you accepted, free of charge, at support@sleevesup.builders.

5.3 To use the Service and receive electronic records you need a device with a current web browser, internet access and a working e-mail address. You may withdraw your consent to electronic records by closing your account; withdrawing consent does not affect the validity of anything provided or accepted electronically before then.

5.4 Communications from us. We send service messages by e-mail, such as account confirmation, password reset, application status, verification and badge-expiry notices, membership notices and changes to these Terms. These are part of the Service and you cannot opt out of them while your account is open. We will send marketing e-mail only as permitted by law, and every marketing e-mail will include a working unsubscribe link. We do not currently send text messages or make telephone calls to users; if we start, we will ask for any consent the law requires first.

6. For Homeowners and Visitors

6.1 Using the directory is free. You contact Members directly using the details on their Listing. Their reply comes from them, not from us.

6.2 You are responsible for deciding whom to hire or where to enrol. Before you hire a Member Business, we strongly recommend that you:

  • confirm any required license directly with the issuing state or local licensing board;
  • ask for a current certificate of insurance and confirm it with the insurer;
  • confirm who will obtain any building permits and inspections the work requires;
  • check references, get more than one written estimate, and get a written contract that describes the scope, price, schedule and warranty;
  • avoid paying large sums in advance, and follow any limits your state places on deposits for home-improvement work; and
  • for older homes, ask whether the business is certified for lead-safe work where federal or state rules require it.

6.3 Before you enrol with a Member School, confirm its accreditation, state authorization, program costs, refund policy and any VA education-benefit approval directly with the school and with the VA (for example through the GI Bill Comparison Tool on VA.gov) or your State Approving Agency.

6.4 Any agreement, payment, dispute, warranty claim or complaint about the work or program is between you and the Member. We are not responsible for a Member's work, prices, conduct, products, safety, timeliness, licensing, insurance, programs, outcomes or statements. You can still report a Listing that looks wrong, as described in Section 20.

6.5 Listing information is supplied by Members. Except for the limited document review behind a Badge (Section 7), we do not check it and it may be incomplete, out of date or wrong.

6.6 Customer reviews. A Member Business may invite a customer to review it by sending an invitation through the Service to the customer's e-mail address. Each invitation contains a single-use link that expires 30 days after it is sent. You can leave one review for each Member Business, and only through an invitation addressed to you. Reviews are shown with the label "Invited by business".

6.7 Your review must be your own, honest account of a real experience with that Member Business. You must not:

  • review a business you did not deal with, or review on behalf of someone else;
  • review a business that you own, manage or work for, or that is owned or managed by a member of your immediate family; or
  • accept money, a discount, a gift or anything else of value in return for writing a review, or for writing a review that says something particular.

When you submit a review, you confirm that it reflects your genuine experience and that you were not paid or offered anything for it. Section 16 (Acceptable use) also applies to reviews. In particular, a review must not contain personal information about others (such as phone numbers, home addresses or health information), threats, hate speech, or statements you know to be false.

6.8 How we handle reviews. Sleeves Up staff check every review before it is published. We may decline to publish, or later remove, a review that we reasonably believe breaks these Terms or the law. We do not remove or decline a review only because it is negative. We do not edit the words of a review, except to correct formatting. We do not check whether what a review says is accurate. A review is the reviewer's opinion and not a statement by Sleeves Up. A published review shows the display name you choose, the rating and the date. It does not show your e-mail address.

6.9 License to publish your review. You keep ownership of your review. You grant Sleeves Up a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, display, format and publish it, with your chosen display name, on and through the Service. The license lasts for as long as the review is published, plus backup copies and the records described in the Privacy Policy. You can ask us to remove your review at any time by e-mailing support@sleevesup.builders from the address the invitation was sent to.

6.10 Disputing a review. A Member Business may reply publicly to a review on its Listing. It cannot edit, hide or delete it. A Member that believes a review breaks these Terms may report it under Section 20, and we will look at it again.

7. Verification and Badges: what they mean and what they do not mean

7.1 What a Badge means. A Badge means that a Sleeves Up staff member reviewed the document or documents the Member submitted for that specific credential, compared them with the Member's claims, and approved them on the date shown on the Listing. Badges are approved only by staff; a Member cannot buy, add or edit a Badge, and membership plan never affects whether a Badge is approved.

7.2 Badges we may show. The Badges and the evidence behind them are described on the Trust & Verification page as in effect on the date of review. In summary:

  • Veteran-Owned: staff reviewed documents the business submitted to show it is owned by one or more veterans under the veteran-ownership standard published on the Trust & Verification page. Accepted evidence may include, for example, a DD-214 (Member-4 copy), a VA letter confirming veteran status, or an SBA VetCert certificate, together with information about the business's ownership. Veteran-ownership evidence is required before a Member Business's Listing can go live.
  • Licensed: staff reviewed a state or local trade license document submitted by the business. The issuing state may be shown. This Badge carries an expiry date and is removed automatically when that date passes, until a renewal is reviewed and approved.
  • Insured: staff reviewed a certificate of general liability insurance submitted by the business. Coverage amounts are not part of the Badge. This Badge carries an expiry date and is removed automatically when that date passes.
  • School credentials: for Member Schools, staff reviewed documents showing accreditation by an accrediting body, state authorization to operate and, where the school claims it, GI Bill (VA facility) approval. Each carries an expiry date and is removed when that date passes. All other GI Bill and all VR&E information on a school Listing is reported by the school and is not verified by us.
  • Background Checked: Sleeves Up does not run background checks and does not offer background screening. If this Badge appears, it means only that staff reviewed screening documentation the business itself submitted; it does not mean we performed, ordered or evaluated a background check, and it is not a consumer report.

7.3 What a Badge does not mean. A Badge is not, and you must not treat it as:

  • a guarantee, warranty or prediction of the quality, safety, legality, price, timeliness or outcome of any work or program;
  • an endorsement, recommendation or referral of the Member by Sleeves Up;
  • confirmation that a license, insurance policy, approval or other credential remained valid, in good standing or adequate after the date it was reviewed, or that it covers the particular work you want done;
  • confirmation that a document is genuine where a forgery or alteration was not reasonably apparent from the document submitted;
  • a background check, criminal-history check or identity check of any individual; or
  • a substitute for checking a license with the issuing board, an insurance certificate with the insurer, or VA approval with the VA.

7.4 How we review. A person reviews every document. We may compare documents against public sources (for example a state license lookup or the SBA VetCert directory), ask for more information, or decline to approve. We are not required to approve any Badge, and the method and depth of review may change over time; the Trust & Verification page describes the current method.

7.5 Dates, expiry and re-review. Each Badge is shown with the date it was approved and, where relevant, an expiry date. We may re-review a Badge at any time, including after a report, and may suspend or remove a Badge or Listing while we do.

7.6 Revocation. We may revoke a Badge if the credential expires, lapses, is suspended or revoked; if the Member does not respond to a request for information; if we learn that information was false, misleading or incomplete; or as otherwise permitted by these Terms. Revocation removes the Badge from the Listing; it is not a finding of wrongdoing unless we say so.

7.7 Members may not use Badges outside the Service except as permitted in Section 15.3.

8. Applying for a Listing (Members)

8.1 To be listed, a Member must create an account, choose its member type (Home Repair Pro or School), complete its profile, upload the credential evidence we request, choose a membership plan and submit an application.

8.2 We review each application and may approve it, reject it or ask for more information. We decide applications using the eligibility requirements published on the Service at the time, including that a Member Business is an independent residential home-repair business owned by one or more veterans and that a Member School offers residential-construction or trade training. We will not reject an application on a basis prohibited by law. We do not have to list any applicant, and approval of one application does not oblige us to approve another.

8.3 A Listing appears in a directory only while all of these are true: the application is approved; the profile is complete; the required verifications are approved and current (for Member Businesses this includes veteran ownership); the Member has an active membership; and the Listing is not paused, suspended or removed. A membership request on its own does not make a Listing visible.

8.4 Contact details. Members must provide a working telephone number, e-mail address and street address. The street address is used for verification and to contact you and is not shown publicly. Contact details you choose to publish appear on your Listing.

8.5 Some edits to a Listing may require staff review before they appear publicly.

9. Member responsibilities and promises

9.1 Each Member promises, when it applies and for as long as it is listed, that:

  • it is a real, lawfully organized business or school, and the person applying is authorized to act for it;
  • everything it submits, including veteran-ownership information, license and insurance information, school accreditation, authorization and VA approval information, service areas, services, programs, prices and photos, is true, accurate, current and not misleading;
  • every document it uploads is genuine, unaltered (other than redaction under Section 11.2), and is something it has the right to share with us;
  • it holds, and will keep in good standing, every license, registration, certification, bond and insurance policy the law requires for the work or training it advertises and performs, in every place where it advertises or performs it;
  • it will include its license number or other required disclosures in its Listing where the law of any state or locality in which it advertises requires them; and
  • it will comply with all laws that apply to its business, including consumer-protection, home-improvement contract, permit, building-code, lead-safe work practice, workplace, anti-discrimination, advertising, privacy, e-mail and telephone marketing laws.

9.2 Keeping information current. A Member must update its Listing and tell us at support@sleevesup.builders promptly, and in any case within ten business days, if any license, insurance policy, accreditation, authorization or VA approval shown or relied on expires, lapses, is suspended, revoked, restricted or cancelled, or if its veteran ownership or control changes.

9.3 Independent business. Each Member is solely responsible for its own work, products, programs, contracts, prices, warranties, employees, subcontractors, students, taxes, insurance and legal compliance, and for every agreement it makes with a Homeowner, student or anyone else it meets through the Service.

9.4 Homeowner information. If a Homeowner contacts a Member, the Member must use the Homeowner's information only to respond to and serve that Homeowner, must keep it secure, and must not sell it, share it for others' marketing, or send unsolicited marketing messages in breach of the CAN-SPAM Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, do-not-call rules or similar laws.

9.5 No misleading claims about Sleeves Up. Members must not state or imply that Sleeves Up guarantees, warrants, endorses, recommends, insures or supervises them or their work, that a Badge means more than Section 7 says, or that their membership plan affects their position in search results.

9.6 Additional promises by Member Schools. Each Member School also promises that:

  • its accreditation, state authorization and VA education-benefit (GI Bill and VR&E) approval information is accurate and current, and it will tell us promptly of any change in status;
  • its program descriptions, costs, durations, credentials, licensing-exam preparation, job-placement, earnings and completion claims are accurate, substantiated and not misleading;
  • it complies with the laws and rules that apply to how schools advertise to and recruit veterans and service members, including 38 U.S.C. § 3696 and its implementing regulations, which prohibit erroneous, deceptive or misleading advertising, sales or enrollment practices, and any state approving-agency requirements;
  • it does not state or imply that it, its programs or its Listing are endorsed by, affiliated with or approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs or any other government agency beyond the approvals it actually holds;
  • it makes clear that eligibility for and the amount of any VA education benefit are decided by the VA, not by the school or Sleeves Up; and
  • it will not use the Service to offer paid assistance with VA benefits claims, or to offer or pay anything of value for referrals of veterans, in breach of federal or state law.

9.7 Review invitations. A Member Business that uses review invitations promises that:

  • it will invite only real customers it has done work for, and only to the e-mail address that customer gave it;
  • it will not pick which customers to invite based on whether it expects a positive review;
  • it will not offer or give anything of value, including discounts, refunds, gifts or entries into prize draws, in return for a review or for a particular kind of review;
  • it will not invite, write or arrange reviews from its owners, managers, employees, their immediate family members, or anyone else acting on its behalf;
  • it will not pressure, threaten or harass a customer about a review, or require a customer to sign anything that limits the customer's right to review it; and
  • it will use the customer e-mail addresses it enters only to send the review invitation through the Service.

The Service limits how many invitations a Member Business can send. If a Member Business breaks this Section 9.7, we may remove the affected reviews, switch off its review invitations, and take action under Section 22.

10. False veteran claims and other misrepresentation

10.1 The Service exists for veteran-owned businesses and the schools that train veterans. Misrepresenting military service, veteran status, service-disabled status, military decorations, or veteran ownership or control of a business harms veterans, Homeowners and honest Members, and may be a crime or a deceptive business practice under federal and state law.

10.2 If we believe in good faith that a Member or Authorized User has made a false or misleading claim of veteran status or veteran ownership, submitted a forged or altered document, or otherwise misrepresented a credential, we may immediately and without prior notice:

  • remove the affected Badge or Badges and suspend or remove the Listing;
  • suspend or close the related accounts and refuse future applications from the Member, its owners and related businesses;
  • keep the relevant records, including the documents and our review notes, for as long as reasonably necessary to protect our rights and respond to legal process, as described in the Privacy Policy; and
  • report the matter to, and cooperate with, law-enforcement, regulatory or licensing authorities (for example a state attorney general, a state licensing board, or the inspector general of the Small Business Administration or the Department of Veterans Affairs) where we believe in good faith that the law requires or permits it.

10.3 A Member that is removed under this Section is not entitled to a refund of any membership fees, except where the law requires one. The Member must indemnify us as described in Section 27.

10.4 We will give the Member an opportunity to respond, as described in Section 22.4, except where doing so would be unlawful, would compromise an investigation, or would put anyone at risk.

11. Verification documents and sensitive information

11.1 Only upload documents we ask for, and only for the purpose of verification.

11.2 Redact before you upload. Before uploading any document, you must black out (redact) your Social Security number and any other information we do not need to verify the credential, such as dates of birth, bank or card numbers, medical information and disability ratings. Your name, the document type, the issuing authority, dates of service or validity, and the information that shows the credential must remain readable. If you upload a document with a Social Security number or other unnecessary sensitive information visible, we may delete it and ask you to upload a redacted copy.

11.3 Verification documents are kept in private storage. They are not shown publicly or to other Members. They are available to the Member's own Authorized Users and to Administrators who need them to review applications, Badges, reports or legal matters.

11.4 We keep verification documents and review records for as long as the Privacy Policy describes, and may keep records of verification decisions longer to show what we reviewed and why. See the Privacy Policy for how to request access, correction or deletion.

11.5 You grant us permission to store, copy, review and process the documents you upload, and to compare them with public sources, solely to operate the verification process, to enforce these Terms and to comply with law.

12. Membership plans, fees, renewal and cancellation

12.1 Request-only today. Membership is currently request-only. When you choose a plan (currently Basic, Plus or Premium, shown with placeholder prices), we record a membership request. No payment is taken, no card details are collected, and no subscription, trial or recurring charge is created. You may withdraw a pending request at any time from your member area. An Administrator activates approved memberships manually.

12.2 No charge without new terms and your express consent. We will not charge you any fee unless and until we have (a) published the membership price, the billing interval, the automatic-renewal terms, the cancellation method and the refund terms; (b) shown them to you clearly before you agree; and (c) obtained your express, affirmative consent to them, for example by a separate checkbox at checkout. Nothing in these Terms authorizes any charge.

12.3 When billing begins, we will also:

  • send you an acknowledgment that you can keep, setting out the renewal terms, the cancellation policy and how to cancel;
  • let you cancel online, through the same channel you used to sign up, by a simple method that is at least as easy as signing up, without having to speak to anyone;
  • send any renewal reminder and price-change notice that applicable law requires; and
  • process payments through a third-party payment processor; we will not store full card numbers ourselves.

12.4 Plan features. Your plan never affects your position in search results, your Badges or your ratings. Some plan features described on the pricing page are planned and not yet available; we will tell you exactly what each plan includes before billing begins.

12.5 Taxes. Fees, once charged, will be exclusive of any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.

12.6 Refunds. Refunds and cancellations are governed by the Membership & Payments page (sleevesup.builders/refunds) as in effect when you are charged, and by any non-waivable rights you have under applicable law.

12.7 Ending a membership. You may end your membership, or withdraw your application, at any time by contacting us at support@sleevesup.builders and, once available, through your member area. Ending a membership takes the Listing out of the directory.

13. Member Content

13.1 You keep ownership of your Member Content.

13.2 You grant Sleeves Up a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable (only together with the Service) and sublicensable (only to our service providers acting for us) license to host, store, copy, display, reproduce, format, translate, resize and adapt for display, and publish your Listing content, logo, photos and other public Member Content: (a) on and through the Service, including search results, sitemaps and directory pages; and (b) to promote the directory and the Service, for example by showing your Listing name and logo in posts or materials about the directory. This license lasts while you are listed and for a reasonable period afterwards to remove content from active use, plus for backup copies and records we keep as described in the Privacy Policy. It does not allow us to sell your Member Content to third parties.

13.3 Non-public Member Content (such as application answers and verification documents) is used only as described in Section 11 and the Privacy Policy. Reviews written by customers are not Member Content. They are covered by Sections 6.6 to 6.10.

13.4 You promise that you own or have all permissions needed for your Member Content (including from photographers and from any person shown in a photo), that our use of it as permitted by these Terms will not infringe anyone's rights or break any law, and that it follows the Acceptable Use & Listing Guidelines.

13.5 We may (but are not required to) review, edit for format, decline, hide or remove Member Content that we believe breaks these Terms or the law or is inaccurate. We are not responsible for Member Content, and we do not adopt it as our own by displaying it.

13.6 Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions about the Service, we may use them without obligation to you.

14. Third-party content and links

14.1 Listings and other Member Content are provided by Members, not by us. Our review of Badge documents under Section 7 is limited to the credential concerned and does not make us the author of, or responsible for, the rest of the Listing.

14.2 The Service links to third-party websites, such as state licensing boards, VA.gov, the SBA and Members' own websites. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices. Your use of them is governed by their terms.

15. Our intellectual property, Badges and marks

15.1 The Service, including its design, software, text we wrote, the directory as a compilation, and the Sleeves Up names, logos and Badge designs, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for the rights expressly granted in these Terms, we reserve all rights.

15.2 You may view and print pages of the Service for your own personal, non-commercial use or, for Members, for managing your Listing.

15.3 Use of Badges and our name by Members. While your Listing is live and a Badge is current, you may state on your own website and marketing that you are "listed on Sleeves Up Builders" and that a specific credential was "reviewed by Sleeves Up Builders on" the date shown, and may link to your Listing. You must not alter a Badge, display a Badge that is not current on your Listing, imply that a Badge means more than Section 7 says, or use our name or marks in a domain name, business name, paid search keyword or in any way that suggests we endorse you. We may withdraw this permission at any time, and it ends automatically when your Listing or the Badge ends; you must then remove the reference promptly.

16. Acceptable use

16.1 You must follow the Acceptable Use & Listing Guidelines (sleevesup.builders/acceptable-use). Among other things, you must not:

  • use the Service for anything unlawful, fraudulent, deceptive or harmful;
  • create a fake Listing, impersonate any person or business, or misrepresent any credential or affiliation;
  • scrape, crawl, harvest or copy Listings, contact details or other data from the Service by automated means, or use it to build a competing directory or a marketing list, or to train machine-learning models, without our written permission;
  • send unsolicited commercial messages to Members or Homeowners using contact details obtained from the Service;
  • probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach or get around any security, rate-limit or access control, unless we have authorized it in writing;
  • upload malware or interfere with the Service or other users' use of it; or
  • create accounts or Listings to get around a suspension or removal.

16.2 We may investigate suspected breaches and take any action described in Section 22.

17. Informational content; no professional advice

17.1 Informational Content, including the Licensing Navigator, apprenticeship and GI Bill guides, the veteran certification guide and any articles, blog or VLOG posts, is general information only. It is not legal, tax, financial, licensing, educational, career or benefits advice, and it does not create any professional relationship.

17.2 Licensing and benefit rules differ by state and locality and change often. Informational Content may be incomplete or out of date. Always confirm requirements with the official licensing authority and confirm benefit eligibility with the Department of Veterans Affairs or your State Approving Agency.

17.3 Sleeves Up is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, the Department of Labor, the Small Business Administration or any state agency. We are not accredited by the VA to assist with benefits claims and we do not prepare, present or pursue claims for VA benefits. Help with VA claims is available free of charge from VA-accredited veterans service organizations.

17.4 Content that Members contribute (for example, future school success stories or videos) is Member Content and is the Member's responsibility.

18. Accessibility

We aim to make the Service usable by everyone, including people who use assistive technology, and we work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. If any part of the Service is hard for you to use, or you need information in another format, e-mail support@sleevesup.builders and we will try to help.

19. Privacy

19.1 Our Privacy Policy (sleevesup.builders/privacy) explains how we collect, use and share personal information, including information in verification documents. Our Cookie & Local Storage Notice (sleevesup.builders/cookies) explains what we store in your browser.

19.2 We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

20. Reporting a problem

20.1 If a Listing, Badge, license, claim or other content looks wrong, unlawful or harmful, tell us at trust@sleevesup.builders or through the Contact page (sleevesup.builders/contact), with the Listing name and what you believe is wrong. We may re-review the Listing and may suspend it while we do.

20.2 We decide in our reasonable discretion what action to take on a report. We do not promise a particular outcome or response time, but we take reports about false veteran claims, forged documents and safety seriously.

21. Copyright complaints (DMCA)

21.1 We respect intellectual-property rights and respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512.

21.2 Our designated agent to receive notices is:

Sleeves Up Builders, Attention: Copyright Agent 8401 Mayland Drive, Suite 6077, Richmond, VA 23294, USA E-mail: support@sleevesup.builders (subject line: "DMCA notice")

21.3 A notice must include: (a) a physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act for them; (b) identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed; (c) identification of the material claimed to be infringing and information reasonably sufficient for us to locate it, such as the Listing address; (d) your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address; (e) a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law; and (f) a statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

21.4 If we remove material in response to a notice, we will take reasonable steps to tell the Member. A Member who believes the material was removed by mistake or misidentification may send a counter-notice to our designated agent that includes: (a) its physical or electronic signature; (b) identification of the material removed and where it appeared; (c) a statement under penalty of perjury that it has a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification; and (d) its name, address and telephone number and a statement that it consents to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which its address is located (or, if outside the United States, any judicial district in which we may be found) and will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice. We may restore the material as the law allows.

21.5 We will, in appropriate circumstances, close the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe others' copyrights.

21.6 Knowingly making a materially false notice or counter-notice can make you liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).

22. Suspension, removal and termination

22.1 You may stop using the Service at any time. To close your account or ask us to delete your information, use Account, then Privacy requests, or follow the steps on the Contact page. Closing the account of the only owner of a Member also takes that Member's Listing out of the directory.

22.2 We may pause, hide or remove a Listing, Badge or other content, refuse or withdraw approval, or suspend or close an account, if: you breach these Terms or the Acceptable Use & Listing Guidelines; information you gave us is false, misleading, outdated or cannot be verified; a required credential or membership lapses; we receive a credible report that needs investigation; we reasonably believe it is needed to protect Homeowners, Members, the public or us; or the law or a court, regulator or licensing authority requires it.

22.3 Where practicable and lawful, we will tell you by e-mail what action we have taken and why, and, where the problem can be fixed (for example an expired insurance certificate), give you a reasonable time to fix it before we remove the Listing. We may act immediately and without prior notice in cases of suspected fraud, false veteran claims, forged documents, risk to safety or security, or where the law requires it.

22.4 You may ask us to reconsider a decision by e-mailing support@sleevesup.builders with "Appeal" in the subject line within 30 days of our notice, explaining why you believe the decision was wrong and including any supporting documents. A different staff member from the one who made the original decision will review the appeal where staffing allows. Our decision on the appeal is final under these Terms, but this does not limit your rights under Section 29.

22.5 We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give Members reasonable advance notice where practicable and refund any prepaid fees for the unused period.

22.6 When your account or Listing ends, your right to use the member areas ends, your Listing is removed from the directory, and we may keep records as described in the Privacy Policy. Sections 3, 7.3, 9 (as to the period you were listed), 10, 11.4, 13.2 (as to backups and records), 13.4 to 13.6, 15, 17, 21.6, 22.6 and 23 to 36 survive.

23. Administrator accounts

23.1 Administrators must also comply with their separate employment, contractor or confidentiality agreements with us. Administrator accounts must use two-step verification and may be used only to operate the Service.

23.2 Administrators may access applications, verification documents and personal information only to the extent needed for their role, must not copy, download or share them except as needed to operate the Service or comply with law, and must keep them confidential. Administrator actions are recorded in an audit log.

24. Sample listings and test content

Any Listing labeled "Sample listing" is a demonstration and does not represent a real business or school. Do not rely on, or try to hire or enroll through, a sample listing.

25. Disclaimer of warranties

25.1 THE SERVICE, ALL LISTINGS, BADGES AND INFORMATIONAL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SLEEVES UP DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE.

25.2 WITHOUT LIMITING SECTION 25.1, SLEEVES UP DOES NOT WARRANT OR GUARANTEE: (A) THE QUALITY, SAFETY, LEGALITY, TIMELINESS, PRICE OR OUTCOME OF ANY WORK, PRODUCT, PROGRAMME OR SERVICE OFFERED BY ANY MEMBER; (B) THE IDENTITY, CREDENTIALS, LICENSING, INSURANCE, VETERAN STATUS, CONDUCT OR SOLVENCY OF ANY MEMBER, BEYOND THE LIMITED DOCUMENT REVIEW DESCRIBED IN SECTION 7 AS OF THE DATE SHOWN; (C) THAT ANY LISTING OR INFORMATIONAL CONTENT IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE OR CURRENT; (D) THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE; OR (E) THAT ANY MEMBER WILL RECEIVE ANY INQUIRY, CUSTOMER, STUDENT OR AMOUNT OF BUSINESS.

25.3 Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms excludes any warranty or right that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

26. Limitation of liability

26.1 TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SLEEVES UP AND ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, BUSINESS, GOODWILL OR DATA, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE.

26.2 TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SLEEVES UP IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE ACTS, OMISSIONS, WORK, PRODUCTS, PROGRAMMES, STATEMENTS OR CONDUCT OF ANY MEMBER, HOMEOWNER, STUDENT OR OTHER THIRD PARTY, OR FOR ANY DISPUTE BETWEEN YOU AND ANY OF THEM.

26.3 TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, AND (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100).

26.4 Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including liability for our fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct, or for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence. The limitations in this Section apply to the extent permitted by the law of your jurisdiction.

26.5 Release. To the extent permitted by law, if you have a dispute with a Member, Homeowner, student or other user, you release Sleeves Up from claims and damages arising out of or connected with that dispute. This release does not apply to claims arising from our own fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, or our own negligence causing death or personal injury. If you are a California resident, you waive California Civil Code § 1542, which says: "A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party." You make a similar waiver of any comparable law of any other jurisdiction, to the extent permitted.

27. Indemnification

27.1 Members. Each Member will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Sleeves Up and its owners, officers, employees, contractors and agents from and against all claims, demands, losses, damages, penalties, fines, costs and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) brought by a third party or a government authority and arising out of or relating to: (a) the Member's work, products, programs, services, employees, subcontractors or students; (b) its Member Content; (c) any false or misleading statement or document it provided, including any false claim of veteran status or veteran ownership; (d) its breach of these Terms; or (e) its violation of any law or of any third party's rights.

27.2 Other users. Every other user will indemnify Sleeves Up in the same way for claims arising out of that user's breach of these Terms, misuse of the Service, or violation of law or of third-party rights, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

27.3 Procedure. We will tell you promptly of any claim for which we seek indemnity (although a delay does not remove your obligation except to the extent it prejudices you), let you control the defense with counsel reasonably acceptable to us, and give reasonable cooperation at your expense. You may not settle a claim in a way that admits fault by us or imposes any obligation on us without our written consent. We may take part in the defense with our own counsel at our own cost.

28. Governing law and courts

28.1 These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the Service, are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and, as to Section 29, by the Federal Arbitration Act. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not take away any protection you have under the mandatory consumer-protection laws of the state where you live.

28.2 Subject to Section 29, any dispute that is not arbitrated, and any action to compel arbitration or to confirm, modify or vacate an arbitration award, must be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and you and we consent to their personal jurisdiction and venue. This does not prevent either party from bringing an individual claim in a small-claims court as described in Section 29.4.

29. Dispute resolution: individual arbitration and class-action waiver

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. IT REQUIRES YOU AND SLEEVES UP TO RESOLVE MOST DISPUTES BY BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION, NOT IN COURT; IT WAIVES THE RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL AND TO TAKE PART IN A CLASS ACTION; AND IT EXPLAINS HOW TO OPT OUT.

29.1 Informal resolution first. Before starting arbitration or a small-claims case, the party with the dispute must send the other a written notice describing the dispute, the relief sought, and the sender's name, account e-mail address (if any) and contact details. Notices to us go to support@sleevesup.builders with "Dispute notice" in the subject line. Notices to you go to the e-mail address on your account or, if none, any contact details we have. Both parties will try in good faith to resolve the dispute for 60 days after the notice is received, including, if either party asks, by a telephone or video conference in which you (and, if you are represented, your lawyer) take part personally. Time limits for bringing claims are paused during this period. Neither party may start arbitration until this process is complete, and an arbitration administrator may refuse or stay a filing that does not comply.

29.2 Agreement to arbitrate. Except as provided in Sections 29.4 and 29.5, any dispute, claim or controversy between you and Sleeves Up arising out of or relating to these Terms, the Service, any Listing or Badge, or your relationship with us, whether based on contract, tort, statute, fraud, misrepresentation or any other legal theory, and whether it arose before or after you accepted these Terms (a "Dispute"), will be resolved by final and binding arbitration on an individual basis.

29.3 Rules and administrator. The arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules if you are using the Service as a Homeowner or Visitor for personal, family or household purposes, or otherwise under its Commercial Arbitration Rules, in each case as modified by this Section, and, where they apply, the AAA Mass Arbitration Supplementary Rules. The rules are available at adr.org. If the AAA is unavailable or unwilling to administer the arbitration consistently with this Section, the parties will agree on a substitute administrator, or a court will appoint one. A single arbitrator will decide the Dispute. The arbitrator may award any individual relief that a court could award to an individual, and must follow these Terms and apply applicable law. Unless the parties agree otherwise, a consumer arbitration will take place by video conference or, if an in-person hearing is needed, in the county where the consumer lives; any other arbitration will take place by video conference or in the Commonwealth of Virginia. For claims of US$10,000 or less, the party bringing the claim may choose whether the arbitration is decided on documents alone, by telephone or video hearing, or in person.

29.4 Small-claims court. Either party may instead bring an individual action in a small-claims court with jurisdiction, as long as the action stays in that court and is brought only on an individual basis.

29.5 Exceptions. The following do not have to be arbitrated: (a) a claim by either party for infringement or misappropriation of intellectual property; (b) a request for a temporary restraining order or preliminary injunction to stop unauthorized access to or misuse of the Service, pending arbitration; and (c) any claim for public injunctive relief to the extent applicable law does not allow it to be waived or arbitrated, which will be decided by a court after the individual claims are arbitrated, with the court case stayed meanwhile.

29.6 Fees. Payment of AAA filing, administration and arbitrator fees is governed by the AAA rules. For consumer Disputes, we will pay all such fees except that, if you start the arbitration, you will pay a filing fee no greater than the fee you would have paid to file the claim in a state court in the county where you live, and we will reimburse it if you win. Each party pays its own attorneys' fees and costs unless the arbitrator awards them under applicable law. We will not seek our attorneys' fees from a consumer unless the arbitrator finds the claim frivolous or brought for an improper purpose.

29.7 Class-action and jury-trial waiver. YOU AND SLEEVES UP EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, COLLECTIVE, CONSOLIDATED, PRIVATE ATTORNEY GENERAL OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims (except as provided in Section 29.8) and may not preside over any form of class, collective or representative proceeding. YOU AND SLEEVES UP EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY.

29.8 Mass arbitration. If 25 or more demands for arbitration raising substantially similar Disputes are filed against, or by, Sleeves Up by or with the help of the same or coordinated counsel or organizations ("Mass Filing"), the AAA Mass Arbitration Supplementary Rules will apply, and in addition: (a) the parties' counsel will meet and confer in good faith on resolving the Disputes efficiently; (b) the demands will be administered in batches of no more than 50 claimants each, with the first batch selected by the claimants' counsel and Sleeves Up equally, and each batch decided by a single arbitrator in one proceeding with one set of fees per batch; (c) once the first batch is decided, the parties will mediate the remaining Disputes in good faith before further batches proceed; and (d) time limits for bringing claims are paused for every demand in the Mass Filing while earlier batches proceed. Neither party will be required to pay fees for demands not yet in a proceeding batch. If any part of this Section 29.8 is found unenforceable, the remainder of Section 29 still applies. A court may enforce this Section 29.8, including by injunction.

29.9 Who decides. The arbitrator decides all issues about the Dispute, including the scope, interpretation and enforceability of this Section 29, except that a court decides: (a) whether the class, collective and representative-action waiver in Section 29.7 is valid and enforceable; (b) whether Section 29.8 applies and is enforceable; and (c) whether a claim falls within Section 29.4 or 29.5.

29.10 If the class waiver is unenforceable. If a court decides that the waiver in Section 29.7 is unenforceable for a particular claim or type of relief, that claim or relief (and only that claim or relief) will be severed from the arbitration and decided by a court in the Commonwealth of Virginia, after the arbitration of any remaining individual claims, and will not be decided by class arbitration.

29.11 Opt-out. You may opt out of this Section 29 by sending an e-mail to support@sleevesup.builders, with the subject line "Arbitration opt-out", from the e-mail address on your account (or, if you have no account, any e-mail address), within 30 days after you first accept these Terms. The e-mail must include your full name, your account e-mail address (if any), the name of any Member you act for, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out of arbitration. Opting out does not affect any other part of these Terms, and it does not affect any earlier agreement to arbitrate you made with us. If you opt out, Section 28.2 applies to Disputes.

29.12 Changes to this Section. If we make a material change to this Section 29, we will give you at least 30 days' notice. The change will not apply to any Dispute of which either party had already given notice. You may reject the change by e-mailing support@sleevesup.builders within 30 days after the change takes effect, in which case the most recent version of this Section 29 you accepted before the change continues to apply.

29.13 Time limit. To the extent permitted by law, any claim relating to these Terms or the Service must be brought within one year after it arises, or it is permanently barred. This does not apply where the law does not allow the time limit to be shortened.

29.14 Survival. This Section 29 survives the end of your account, your Listing and these Terms.

30. Changes to these Terms

30.1 We may update these Terms from time to time. Each version has a version identifier and an effective date. We will post the current version at sleevesup.builders/terms.

30.2 For material changes (for example, changes to fees, renewal or cancellation terms, Section 7, Section 26 or Section 29), we will give Members and account holders at least 30 days' notice by e-mail to the address on the account and by a notice in the member area, unless a shorter period is required by law or the change is needed urgently for security or legal reasons. Members will be asked to accept the updated Terms before they can submit an application, request or change a membership, or continue to use member features after the change takes effect.

30.3 Changes do not apply retroactively and do not apply to a Dispute of which either party had already given notice. If you do not agree to a change, you must stop using the Service and, if you are a Member, may end your membership under Section 12.7 before the change takes effect. For Visitors and Homeowners, using the Service after the effective date of a change means you accept it.

31. Force majeure

We are not responsible for any delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, severe weather, fire, flood, epidemic, war, terrorism, civil unrest, labor disputes, government action, or failures of utilities, the internet, hosting, e-mail or other third-party service providers.

32. Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account or Listing without our prior written consent; any attempt to do so is void. We may assign these Terms, in whole or in part, to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of all or part of our business or assets, and will notify Members if we do.

33. Notices and contact

33.1 Notices to us must be sent by e-mail to support@sleevesup.builders. Legal notices may also be sent by post to Sleeves Up Builders, 8401 Mayland Drive, Suite 6077, Richmond, VA 23294, USA. Notices to you will be sent to the e-mail address on your account or shown in the member area. E-mail notices are effective when sent, unless the sender receives a notice that delivery failed.

33.2 Other contacts: billing and membership, billing@sleevesup.builders; reporting a Listing, trust@sleevesup.builders; privacy and account deletion, privacy@sleevesup.builders. See sleevesup.builders/contact.

33.3 California residents: under California Civil Code § 1789.3, you may contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by telephone at (800) 952-5210.

34. Entire agreement, severability and waiver

34.1 These Terms, together with the policies incorporated in Section 1.4 and any separate written agreement described in Section 1.5, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service and replace any earlier terms, statements or understandings on the same subject, including earlier wording on the Service about fees, trials or refunds.

34.2 If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted and the remaining provisions remain in full effect, except as Sections 29.8 and 29.10 provide.

34.3 Our failure or delay in enforcing any provision is not a waiver of it. A waiver is effective only if it is in writing and signed or sent by e-mail by an authorized representative of Sleeves Up.

35. Relationship of the parties; no third-party beneficiaries

Nothing in these Terms creates any partnership, joint venture, employment, agency or franchise relationship between you and us, or between us and any Member. Except as stated in Sections 26 and 27 for our owners, officers, employees, contractors and agents, these Terms do not give any rights to anyone other than you and us.

36. Interpretation

Headings and the Key points summary are for convenience only and do not affect interpretation. "Including" and similar words mean "including without limitation". If these Terms are translated, the English version controls.
